ceramics

I wouldn't have thought that some would use ceramic rods. But ceramic has awesome properties that can be suitable for certain circumstances. Some would prefer its hardness and thermal shock resistance. I used to only associate ceramics with vases, but now I know that it has a lot of other uses. Some aircraft manufacturers even use them. That's a pretty amazing new information that I've learned.
